SELG has tremendous depth and experience in the many complexities of school construction in districts of all sizes and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our attorneys are well versed in all aspects of school construction, from assistance with initial planning including negotiation (where applicable), local planning and zoning approvals, contract preparation, project management and close-out. Our attorneys also have vast experience contracting with architects and construction managers, preparing bid specifications, reviewing bids, preparing construction contracts, and providing day-to-day advice in resolving construction disputes. Given the complex nature of construction projects, and the problems that may arise, SELG drafts its contracts with an eye on the protection of the client.
SELG has been involved with projects totaling in the hundreds of millions of dollars. These projects encompass new construction, renovations and maintenance projects. Whether the projects cost tens of millions or tens of thousands of dollars, SELG&C makes sure that its clients are protected.
SELG’s Construction Group is also a leader in the legal aspects of procurement of renewable energy for its public and governmental clients. We have served as counsel to our clients on numerous renewable energy projects involving the installation of solar panels. These projects encompass solar installations that are financed through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), providing for ownership by the public entity, or through local improvement authorities. We work closely with our clients in developing requests for proposals (RFP) to procure renewable energy, in compliance with the laws governing same and protection of our clients, while reviewing and evaluating the proposals received, and developing and finalizing the PPA. We also counsel our clients on those issues that arise during the installation of the solar project with the goals of protecting our clients and minimizing adverse impacts on the district.
